PHULE – A biography with meaningful impact

Director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan is not new to making Biographical films but in “Phule” he has excelled himself and gave us a beautiful film about Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. He and his wife Savitribai both were pioneers in women’s education and promoting equality amongst society irrespective of caste , creed and religion. .That was the mission of their life. Phule’s perhaps were the first to have coined the word DALITS for the lower caste and untouchables. His excellent work of social reforms had earned him the title of Mahatma from the then Maharaja Gaikwad.

The film derives impact from the skillful directorial treatment given by Mahadevan. Of course other departments like editing, photography and music too contributed in unison .Pratik Gandhi did full justice in living the life and experiences of Mahatma Phule. Patralekhaa as Savitribai Phule is superb. Editing is sharp and keeps us involved thru’out the film. I can call “Phule” as the best biographical film from Ananth Narayan Mahadevan.
